Welcome to the blog of the Adams Builds Community Campaign!

This blog is dedicated to the
Campaign
to keep Adams School
for use as a community center on Munjoy Hill.

The Portland City Council is waiting to hear from people in the community before they make a final decision. They are aware of the community's needs and what a great community center it would make. This is why they did not immediately demolish the building last year when the City received ownership of the school from the school department. It was not put out to the highest bidder for developers to claim because the Portland City Council wanted to give the community a fair chance to decide the best use for the community.

The Adams School Re-Use Committee was just the beginning.
( final report [PDF] available online )

Now it's your turn!

Now the community will be asked to tell the City Council what we want to do with the Adams School site.

Now is the time to get involved & tell the City Council that Adams Builds Community!

There will be upcoming community meetings to discuss what will happen on the site. This is our chance to make the most of this historic opportunity for our community.

An afterschool program called A Company of Girls was located in the school last school year. They lost their space at 10 Mayo where they had been operating for 12 years. The building was purchased and they were forced to leave. Fortunately, the City of Portland had let them rent the Adams School for their program during the time that the community is deciding what it would like to see happen on the site.
Other groups which serve our children and our community and enhance the quality of life for all, are having a difficult time finding & keeping their program spaces. They would like to operate in the Adams School, as well.

There are many exciting opportunites for the site. It is 1.5 acres. Even with keeping the Adams School, the playground, and some open space, there would still be room for 20 or 30 or more units of diverse and truly affordable housing to help keep Munjoy Hill the great and diverse community it has always been.
It's up to you!
Make sure everyone gets the message that our community already knows:

Let's keep Adams School
to help make Munjoy Hill
an even better community for all!

Thank you!
